Interpreting 101 is a basic training for bilingual individuals who want to become professional interpreters, as well as those who have worked as an interpreter and want to improve their knowledge and skills. This 14-hour training will include: General overview of spoken language interpreting in medical, court and community settings Modes of interpretation: consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for legal, medical, and community interpreting Skill building and note taking for consecutive interpretation Consecutive interpreting practice through role plays Techniques to resolve challenges encountered while interpreting Who should attend? Bilingual individuals who speak English and any other language. No previous interpreting experience is required. What is included in the course? Interpreting 101 includes 5 webinars and 2 skills building sessions. All sessions are online through Zoom. Our Summer 2023 course includes a special bonus: one month free premium DSLCI membership! We will provide supplemental materials for each session. To get the most out of this course, we recommend that you spend 1-2 hours outside of class each week reviewing these materials and/or practicing your skills. What if I am not available for all of the course dates? We highly recommend that you attend all of the live sessions. If you miss a live session, you will have access to a recording of each session and corresponding materials. You must watch the recording and complete the weekly quiz before the next session to receive credit for that week. What is the cost of the workshop? The cost for 14 hours of training is only $245! Our Summer 2023 course includes a special bonus valued at $49: one month free premium membership with access to practice sessions and resources! Do I receive a certification when I complete this course? Participants who complete the entire training will receive a certificate of completion from Deep South Language and Culture Institute. To receive your certificate, you must participate in all sessions and pass all quizzes with at least an 80% score. Please note that this course does not give you a certification in medical or legal interpreting.
